Programs & Classes
Youth & Beginner Program
Picking up a saber and setting foot on the strip for the first time? Our Youth and Beginner Program offers a wonderful introduction to the sport of fencing, with instruction that covers basic fundamentals such as footwork, handwork, distance control, and simple tactics and techniques.
A combination of group classes and private lessons is recommended for youth and beginner fencers so they can develop the physical and social skills required by the sport and so coaches can tailor their instruction to the age and maturity of the students.
Youth and Beginner group classes: Classes are one and a half hours; all equipment is provided. There are no age requirements; the experience level ranges from zero experience with fencing to about 5 months of fencing experience, and classes are filled based on the coaches’ recommendations.

In a small, more intimate group of fencers at the same time, there can be more direct care and attention. The coach will demonstrate the moves, and then each fencer will have the opportunity to practice execution on their own as well in pairs, with feedback provided by the coach. Classes are one hour and tailored for small groups of four to six fencers. $80/hr per fencer.
Fencing Camps
Brush up on your skills before a big tournament and take advantage of school holidays and breaks with SFC fencing camps. These intensive camps feature instruction from multiple coaches focused on refreshing and improving your fencing skills. Each day of the camp is focused on specific skills and conditioning. Beginner, advanced, and mixed-level camp options are available. Beginner camps cover the basics of fencing and include friendly conditioning games, drills, and bouting. Intermediate camps build and expand on the basics, covering advanced techniques, tactics, and drills. For camps schedule and detailed information, visit Camps and Tournaments.
